Founders Alex Tew and Michael Acton Smith started the company, committed to develop evidence-based sleep and mindfulness resources, informed by rigorous scientific research. Studies found that, among the general Calm subscribers who use Calm more than five times per week, 84% saw improvements in mental health, 81% reported less stress and 73% of them has testified on higher sleep quality.
Calm’s programs are delivered via a mindfulness mobile app and website, which feature of a session timer, e-mail reminders, progress tracking, program training, and an app community. There are audio and video features (e.g., music, nature sounds and scenery), which complement the guided meditation tracks.
Calm's mobile app won multiple awards including App of the Year by Apple in 2017 and Google Play's Editors' Choice in 2018. The Calm app has 1.5 million 5-stars reviews and was rated as world's happiest app.
